Help with jailbreaking and Cydia for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches.

evasi0n7 can jailbreak iOS 7.0-7.0.6 untethered. p0sixspwn can jailbreak iOS 6.1.3-6.1.5 untethered (see here for 6.1.6).
How to jailbreak iOS 7.0-7.0.6 (and fix problems). iOS 7.1 is not jailbreakable, except an unsupported tethered iPhone 4 jailbreak.
Restoring or updating will update your device to iOS 7.1 and remove your jailbreak. There is no way to downgrade from iOS 7.1 to 7.0.x.

I'm not liking my 3GS performance on 6.1.2. I'd like to downgrade it to 5.1.1 but the only SHSH blobs I have are for 4.1 (fetched it from Cydia with Tiny Umbrella) and 6.1.2. So I believe I need to downgrade to 4.1 and then once that's done then I need to use Snowbreeze to restore to 5.1.1. Is that correct? So, what program should I use to downgrade to 4.1? I tried redsnow, but it said it only supports 4.3. Please help.

What is the serial number?

Serial number starts 879235 But i already know it has the old baseband. Cydia said it had blobs for it and I downloaded them.

Ok, you cannot restore device ( regardless of its bootrom ) to unsupported version without shsh blobs. You can downgrade to 4.1 by simply doing shift-(option on Mac) restore in iTunes.

Well I do have blobs that I fetched from Cydia using tiny umbrella, and also another set that i got using iFaith that it downloaded from Apple. They are for 4.1. So you're saying i can just restore without stitching blobs. Will it upgrade my baseband or anything bad like that? Because I want to restore it again afterwards to 5.1.1 and unlock it.

Oh wait. Are you saying that if I do downgrade it to 4.1 that I WON'T be able to upgrade it to 5.1.1 without blobs?

You do not need blobs to restore 3Gs to 4.1 as 4.1. is still miraculously signed by Apple. I have to repeat again, you will not be able to restore to 5.x.x without shsh. If i was you, i would not experiment.

That sucks... but it's also weird because a few weeks ago I had restored it from factory 4.1 to 4.3 using RedSn0w. Is 4.3 still being signed?

(28 Mar '13, 22:43) tc154 tc154's gravatar image

no 4.3, only 4.1 is still being signed.

@tc154 why you want to downgrade to 4.1?beacuse 6.1.2 is perfect and having many new features.

@slavakilikoff, just wanted a clarification- restoring to 4.1 through iTunes will upgrade the baseband to 5.14.02 so to unlock, it will be required to flash iPad baseband and then downgrade, right?

im not sure, but i always have problems downgrading with my 3gs if i dont preserve baseband. so, i always use sn0wbreeze simple mode to restore to my older firmwares.

I just wanted to downgrade because the performance was bad.... but I've decided to live with it. I just restored to 6.1.2 for a fresh install and then didn't put as many Cydia apps and the performance is a little better.

Old Bootrom 3GS do not need SHSH blobs. You can restore to any version just by entering PWN DFU.

@tc154 (re: "I just restored to 6.1.2 for a fresh install ...") did you use sn0wbreeze's Simple, Expert or Baseband Preservation mode for that, or a different method that doesn't need SHSH blobs for a old bootrom 3GS?
