You are probably in a recovery loop. You can try the new TinyUmbrella Beta for Mac and click Exit Recovery. If you have no Mac or it doesn't work, put it into DFU mode and restore it then. Make sure to delete all lines with from your hosts file before you start iTunes for the restore. And if you just want to exchange it, you can bring it in this state also. They cannot get it out of recovery easily, so they don't see it's jailbroken.

http ♦

@http i have seen devices in all modes, and it always registers with iTunes (i.e recognized as a device in recovery mode), if this is not happening then the battery is dead or the device has a hardware failure.

what did you do to it if its bricked then you should start thinking on a new one if its not maybe its just on a dfu or recovery mode try holding both buttons untill you see the apple, you can also check the mac, about this mac and look into usb devices see if yours is detected and in which mode is it

Did you restore from your iPod touch itself then? If so, that is the screen that it goes on when everything has been deleted off of it. Update to the latest iTunes and try plugging it into your computer. iTunes should say found device in recovery. Then you should be able to restore.

Assume that it is not in DFU mode. Follow instructions (that are all over the web) on how to get it into DFU mode and try to restore.
