You can use Cydia Impactor if you need to un-jailbreak an 8.1-8.4 device without restoring.

Yes, creating an ipsw with sn0wbreeze, pwning your device and then installing that cfw preserves your baseband.

Ok sorry, not a tech guy... what is pwing (powering down?), cfw? is this not recommended if I don't know what I am doing?

Pwn or Pwned DFU is putting your device and installing software that mitigates security mechanism that prevents Custom FirmWare (cfw) from being flashed to iDevices, a cfw is usually the same firmware but mainly without the baseband update, other stuff can also be added such as preinstalled packages. You can put your device in Pwned DFU mode using iReb or Redsn0w.

You can create cfw firmware files from original Apple ipsw (firmware files) using Pwnage Tool (for Mac) or Sn0wbreeze (for Windows)
