I just used evasi0n to jailbreak my iphone 4s on 6.1.2. Now all of the sudden, the cydia app constantly opens up the iTune app. What is going on?

You tap cydia and iTunes opens?

(23 Feb '13, 23:54) spockers ♦ spockers's gravatar image

Not quite. I'll open cydia to do whatever, and after a few seconds the iTunes app will open on its own. Sometimes it doesn't happen. But it happens more often than it doesn't.

Rejailbreak will fix that problem.

Sometimes when I go to a tweak page I will be redirected to an ad that will take me to a random game in the app store, this could be something like it. Does it redirect to another page and then open itunes?

Hello- New guy with a clue here. Add the source "http://cydia.myrepospace.com/basic/" and then install "BaSic-AdBlock" package, you will then be able to enable/disable the adblock via SBSettings- so far (three days of use) I haven't had any more redirects since enabling it.

Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with the developers of the tweaks/workarounds I promote, nor do I make any money for mentioning them here- I'm just trying to solve the JB world's problems, one tiny thing at a time.

This did work for me. I still see ads when viewing packages, but I don't have any more redirects

You must have an issue with a tweak or something incompatible with iOS 6.x

  • If you do have tweaks or JB apps installed, compare them with those on This List and remove any marked not or partly compatible;
  • If no luck, fire up (or install first from Cydia) SBSettings, (fire it by swiping your finger on your status bar) and click on More then, scroll down and click on Mobile Substrate Addons and disable them ONE by ONE until you find the bad guy;
  • Once done, re-enable it in SBSettings and go uninstall in Cydia;
  • If still no luck, Restore your device, but don't re-install all your tweaks in once w/AptBackup for instance; go ONE by ONE...

Hope this helps,

This is nothing to do with any installed jailbreak tweaks. It happens on a freshly jailbroken phone with nothing else installed (no additional App Store Apps or Cydia Apps).

It was happening on my iPhone 4S and was still happening even with ALL mobile substrate addons disabled. In the end I resorted to doing a fresh restore of my phone to iOS 6.1.2 via iTunes, set my phone up as a new phone and then immediately applied the evasi0n 1.5 jailbreak. After the jailbreak had completed I went straight into Cydia and searched for "iSHSHit" which was one of the apps causing Cydia to redirect/open iTunes (always to an app called "Candy Crush Saga"). It was still happening on my freshly jailbroken phone. It appears to be something to do with the adverts that load up for some Cydia apps when you go into the details for them. One of the adverts probably has some JavaScript code in that is automatically opening an iTunes URL which will cause the iTunes app to be opened for the specified URL item.

The only solution I've found at present is that as soon as you see the redirection start to occur after you've gone into the details of a Cydia app, quickly hit the "Details" back button at the top of the screen and it will take you back to the details of the Cydia app before iTunes has a chance to fire up. You are then left on the details page of the Cydia app without being kicked out to iTunes.

This issue is a PITA so if anyone does know of or find a better way of circumventing the problem then please post up the solution.

Some ideas: (1) If you figure out where the ads are coming from, add it to the local hosts file on the device pointed to 127.0.0.1 (2) contact the repo owner (BigBoss) and complain about their ads that cause redirection.

This just happened to me today after updating the evasi0n package from 0.3-1 to 0.4-1. Never happened on original jb, just started doing this after the update, so I have a feeling that's where the problem is. And it makes sense that any new jb idevice will have the same issue until it's fixed.
Can anyone confirm my thoughts?

Wish I had a solution. Cydia is becoming almost unusable. Every install I try I end up being redirected to the app store. The back button seems to be the only fix. Saurik?

Use the "add a comment" button unless you are answering the original question. The button looks like this:

I had the same problem, nothing works, no answers on this Q and A. No one can give me any answers other than rejailbreak which is silly.
