How to fix some mysterious problems.

Can i update my iphone 4s currently in iOS 6.1 jailbroken to 6.1.1 through an OTA update? Will there be any problems if i do so? or should i first backup my iphone 4s in itunes and then factory reset my iphone to remove jailbreak and then do the OTA update and then restore from the backup?

best you do it through itunes, full restore, since thats what the jailbreak creators always have said.

The recommended procedure is to restore your phone (connected to iTunes). OTA is at your own risk. The update to the JB disabled OTA anyway.

You cannot use OTA on a jailbroken device. It will start to download but fail. Only way is to use iTunes. Best to restore.

So what I am going to loose by doing this? What kind of backups do I need?

JB virgin here. I have a 4S and would like to apply it if it is worth it on a CDMA phone.

I am already jailbroken on 6.1 and will read up on how, or if, to goto 6.1.1

Not that much to it other than time: make sure your iTunes backup is current; restore iOS 6.1.1; jailbreak; install tweaks as desired; restore from backup.

All done! That was amazingly painless. I fixed a problem with iTunes thinking I had 20GB of photos on my phone to boot with the restore.

When I reloaded my Cydia tweaks all their settings were the same as they were before even.
