How to fix some mysterious problems.

Upgraded to RC6 but now the battery doens't seem to last as long. My plan is going back to RC2 which lasted longer on my battery. Can I just re-run the RC2 GP over RC6 ? or do I need to do a restore beforehand

No, you can't "downgrade" from RC6 to RC2, you'll need to restore to a firmware supported by RC2. Though, I highly suggest RC5. But again, you'll need to restore either way. If you need: RC5 (Windows), RC5 (Mac)
