Help with jailbreaking and Cydia for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches.

evasi0n7 can jailbreak iOS 7.0-7.0.6 untethered. p0sixspwn can jailbreak iOS 6.1.3-6.1.5 untethered (see here for 6.1.6).
How to jailbreak iOS 7.0-7.0.6 (and fix problems). iOS 7.1.x is not jailbreakable, except an unsupported tethered iPhone 4 jailbreak.
Restoring or updating will update your device to iOS 7.1.1 and remove your jailbreak. There is no way to downgrade from iOS 7.1.x to 7.0.x.

No. Installing firmware from Apple via iTunes will effectively format your device. I recommend the following steps to eliminate many restore-related hiccups.

  1. Make a backup of your device via iTunes.
  2. Install the iOS 6.1 firmware.
  3. Setup the device via the wizard ON the device (ignore iTunes - unplug).
  4. When asked to restore from a backup, say NO. Treat this as if it is brand new.
  5. Once you get to the home screen, run evasi0n to jailbreak your device.
  6. Once the process is complete and after the final reboot, connect the device back to iTunes.
  7. Select Restore from backup and choose the backup appropriate for the device.
  8. All of your settings will be restored. You will have to reinstall your Cydia packages via manual method or a utility like pkgbackup.
