How to fix some mysterious problems.

Hi, I am in the process of upgrading an iphone 4s ios 6.01 with baseband 3.0.04 to iOS 6.1. I am planning on subsequently jailbreaking the device. Is there any tool in cydia that will allow me to UNLOCK it? Cheers

I am not 100% on this, but I highly doubt it. "Unlocking" is a very intricate process and being able to download a program to do it OTA seems a little far fetched. My suggestion is to call your current carrier and ask if they will unlock the device for you. This way could be a little pricey, but is guaranteed and will never be "locked" again. Companies like Verizon Wireless charge upwards of $150 dollars.. Definitely worth not risking sabotaging your iDevice with an unknown program or trusting a third party company..

seems you might not fully understand what you're talking about, give this a read over a few times before trying to help others :)

i'm sorry i don't mean to sound rude in any way, but you're a bit off topic with that response.

A bit off topic? He asked to unlock. And I will quote the FAQ page. The VERY first two paragraphs under Can I Unlock my iPhone. "Try calling your carrier and asking them if your iPhone is eligible for a free or paid official unlock. (In the US, AT&T now provides official unlocks for out-of-contract iPhones, and Sprint and Verizon may be willing to unlock your device as well.)

If you can get an official unlock, we recommend getting it even if you have to pay for it, since it'll be much more convenient than unofficial unlocking. An officially-unlocked device is permanently unlocked, even if you restore it and/or update the baseband"

So please, with all respect stop trolling and go outside I think your thought process is a bit cloudy.

Ultrasnow? If you would of read he has an iPhone 4S.. No 4s or 5 Can be unlocked right now besides by their carriers.. "iPhone 4S Not supported by ultrasn0w. May be unlockable via Gevey, which is a SIM unlocking device, but JailbreakQA does not support SIM unlocks such as Gevey." How about you read the FAQ page troll?

did i say anything about " ultrasn0w ".. now who's process is a bit cloudy.

So, I think we can all agree that official unlocks are the best kind of unlock, but the Dev Team's ultrasn0w has worked reliably for uncountable numbers of older devices (despite definitely being intricate!), and third-party IMEI unlocks may be a bit grey area but they do seem to work fine. There's no need to debate which one is better, really - let's just get back to answering people's questions.
