Help with jailbreaking and Cydia for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches.

evasi0n7 can jailbreak iOS 7.0-7.0.6 untethered. p0sixspwn can jailbreak iOS 6.1.3-6.1.5 untethered (see here for 6.1.6).
How to jailbreak iOS 7.0-7.0.6 (and fix problems). iOS 7.1.x is not jailbreakable, except an unsupported tethered iPhone 4 jailbreak.
Restoring or updating will update your device to iOS 7.1.1 and remove your jailbreak. There is no way to downgrade from iOS 7.1.x to 7.0.x.

Cheers

UPDATE: Although it has been confirmed by @MuscleNerd that evasi0n would support Apple TV 2, it seems that it doesn’t. Based on earlier news from evad3rs team, we believed their jailbreak was compatible with Apple TV 2 when publishing the below post just a few minutes after evasi0n went live. We are very sorry for causing confusion. We now have to wait for Seas0nPass to be updated with iOS 6.x support for Apple TV 2. We believe it won’t take long.

As of right now, Apple is still signing AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw which I believe is the one currently supported by Seas0nPass.

I could not tell you why they are still signing an old version but I just verified it with TinyUmbrella. You can download that and use Seas0nPass to build a jailbroken ipsw and install it. At least that would keep you from having a worthless device until Seas0nPass is updated.

try to bost the apple tv with the power cord too, 1. get your mini USB cable for the apple tv in to the apple tv (dont plug ity to the computer yet). 2. plug your ATV to the power cable and in to your power source 3. after a second plug your USB in to the computer 4. know the computer should recognize your ATV and allow you the jailbreak

hope for the best

(05 Feb '13, 02:41) JLP55 JLP55's gravatar image

did you restored with the correct ios for ATV2? virsion 5.2 try to restore it anothe time from Itunes not from your ATV2. then try to jailbreak it again,

let us know if it worked for you

(05 Feb '13, 03:07) Ancoavi Ancoavi's gravatar image

I just bought it on ebay, so no restore possible to an earlier os version, just read Seasonpass must be updated for this to work, and I read it wouldn't take long

Thanks again

firmwar 5.2 is the most updated for ATV you should jailbreak it from that firmwar, download it and plug your ATV to itunes than press shift + restor together than pick the firmwar you downloaded and wait for the restor to end. try jilbreak agian after that

I have another option, try Seas0nPass anyway. follow the insructions of Seas0nPass, when asked to plug your ATV with USB to the PC, first insert the power cord and immdiatly plug the USB than you will have to put into DFU mode (as instructed) it will make the full installation/ in the end you might get error 1602, try your ATV. in the full prosses if you can plug your ATV to your TV with HDMI cable you'll be able to see the progress/

let me know if you had succses

(05 Feb '13, 14:54) Ancoavi Ancoavi's gravatar image

PS if it worked you'll have a jailbreak of firmwar 5.0.2 I did it without SHSH BLOB

(05 Feb '13, 14:55) Ancoavi Ancoavi's gravatar image

Thanks again Ancoavi, this is working up to DFU mode.

I guess I will use this method, it's even downloading the right ispw :-)

Stuck at finding an aluminum remote to get in DFU...

there is a problem, Evasi0n doesn't support the AppleTV 2.

I did the JB with only USB cable, no powercord needed (in my case, who knows for others..)

Good day, JB comrades :-)

I used seasonpass to revert to 5.0.2, for all those who don't know, it downloads the right ispw, patches it and lets you install it automatically on the atv2.

I used the silver remote (no DFU mode otherwise... unless script usage to force DFU mode)

JB went fine, just to highlight some issues, once nitotv is installed and XBMC (through nitotv installer or through ssh), it is better:

  • not install any of the nitotv additional packages, they are not stable yet and might increase crashing rate.
  • not enable thumbnails extractor in XBMC, is saturating the cache and will generate crashes.
  • disable Airplay on ATV main settings and enable only the one within XBMC

I have been able to figure out a way to add external source of a specific configuration: adding a USB external HD OS ext with afp protocol. It returns error when you add afp://192.168.0.5/shareddrive but it requests to save the the location anyway. then go one level back up and open zeroconfig, you will find there, your shared HD fully browsable with the following address afp://192.168.0.5:548/shareddrive (with port added).... but I guess I'll make another post about this tweak because I found a lot of people on the net having this unresolved issue.

By the way, after investigating Snowbreeze newly JB tool for ATV 6.1 I wouldn't recommend to use it as nor nitotv or xbmc are ready for it. Maybe Firecore ($$) tools would be suitable as they are ahead of the others in terms of JB add ons/tools for ATV.

Cheers to all of you for your dedicated help.

does your 5.1.1 jailbreak by seasonpass is untethered or tethered? on my computer seasonpass dowloads 5.0.2 not 5.1.1 automatically , how did you made it to dowload 5.1.1?

thanks in advance

(07 Feb '13, 04:34) Ancoavi Ancoavi's gravatar image

sorry, after relecture of my post it is indeed 5.0.2, I will edit it :)

(07 Feb '13, 04:36) JLP55 JLP55's gravatar image

I wished 5.1.1 was jailbroken, for some reason this is the only firwar with Hebrew language in it, i wonder why?

(07 Feb '13, 04:51) Ancoavi Ancoavi's gravatar image

by the way I used firecore for 5.2 and no XBMC yet. i think it worth the money but will wait for it to update

(07 Feb '13, 04:52) Ancoavi Ancoavi's gravatar image

I keep getting crashes in video like this http://pastebin.com/xsJKk2eb

it is mentioned on http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=AFP

but I think I found a workaround... when pause/play it for 1sec every 10 min, crashes don't appear, I will report that to XBMC for their future researches.

I will try SMB protocol to check if crashes repeat in order to see if protocol is the one causing the problem.

(07 Feb '13, 04:59) JLP55 JLP55's gravatar image

DIDNT HAD THIS PROBLEM, mayby the source is not good.

do you have any idea as for the language disappearance issue? did it happand with apple in the past?

(07 Feb '13, 05:19) Ancoavi Ancoavi's gravatar image

I have switched from Analog to HDMI on audio Source output (still on AFP) and no crash so far. Next I will switch to NFS protocol for testing.
