Rather than the recommended backup to iTunes first and then create a new iPhone, Jailbreak and restore back from iTunes. Can we not back up to iCloud and simply apply the Jailbreak?

It is recommended that you backup and restore from itunes and then later sync with icloud.

from planetbeing: The main problem with using iCloud is that I can't figure out a way to trigger an iCloud restore after you get past the initial setup screen if you decide not to restore from a backup on the setup screen. After you restore from the iTunes backup, your device will continue to back up to iCloud anyway as well."

You can right click your device in the iTunes sidebar ad choose "back up" but that still might sync some apps over.

Or what about resetting it within the phone? Then installing the Jailbreak then resetting from the iPhone again and select restore from iCloud?

Would this remove the Jailbreak?
