Specific reasons why not to update by OTA. "SPECIFIC" & why to update by iTunes instead.

The ramdisk used in OTA updates is different than the ones with an iTunes restore.

The developers test/restore their devices a lot and use iTunes. This means all the jailbreak tools are mainly tested on itunes restored devices.

in the 5.x days, a restore hack with iTunes ramdisks (not OTA) made it possible for A5+ devices to downgrade. If you use iTunes now there is a better possibility of downgrading/re-restoring whenever 6.1 is no longer signed.

  1. OTA updated firmware has different SHSH blobs to restored firmware so future downgrades may not be possible.
  2. Less testing will be done on OTA updated devices so more chance of bugs.
