Question

Ok I heard that you can't update your ipod from ios 6.0.1 to 6.1. So to update my ipod do I have to restore it to 6.1 or update via iTunes which one?

Same thing, but keep in mind the following info about OTA:

The reason it is not recommended to use OTA is that the APTicket is different (part of the shsh blob) depending on the restore method, and OTA APTickets are the least reliable. APTickets are used when downgrading iOS versions. There might be a hack making downgrades possible in the future, like they currently are with iOS 5 A5 devices, but using OTA insures that will not work for you. It has nothing to do with the jailbreak -- that will work no matter how you arrived at iOS 6.x.
