How to fix some mysterious problems.

I have an iphone 5 that is locked to att, and was wondering if my phone will work jailbroken because with my previous phone the service would not work when I jailbroke it until I factory unlocked it. Will I need to unlock my phone before I try to jailbreak it for my service to work?

Jailbreaking neither locks nor unlocks your carrier. After jailbreaking your service will be whatever it was before jailbreaking. Official and IMEI unlocks are permanent, and there is no software unlock for an iPhone 5.

No, having an "unlocked" phone has nothing to do with being able to jailbreak it at all. Unlocked means it can use any network provider.
