How to fix some mysterious problems.

Hello. (Please) I need helping understanding something. I have an iPhone 5 iOS 6.0. I got in in the states, and it's AT&T. I am now overseas (military) and I turned off my service until I get back to the states in a few months. Do I need to have service in order to jailbreak my iPhone 5, and also, if I can jailbreak it now, will I lose it once I get back to the states and I get a new simcard. (AT&T said I need to get another sim card once I get back to get my service back on). I am worried because once I do get back to the states, apple will had put out a new iOS that is/will not be jail breakable. And, I'm afraid I'll have to update to the newest iOS which will probably not be jailbreakable. If you understand my question and you know the answer answer, please help.

i don't have all the answers to your question because I don't use a sim card, but the iOS 6.1 that is coming out that you seem to be worried about will have a jailbreak out for it. It's due out this superbowl sunday!

So are you saying should plug in my iPhone 5 running on iOS6.0 into iTunes and update(or restore? I don't know the difference) to 6.1... and then download and jailbreak it once evasi0n comes out and I'll be okay?... and then once I get back to the states I'll just pop in a new simcard and all will be good??

Nothing to worry about. You can restore to 6.1, activate using any at&t sim and jailbreak it when evasi0n is out. No apple does not need to update to anew iOS when you place in a new sim.

Oh btw, lemme add that at&t unlocks iPhones for free for those on military overseas service. You migt want to give them a call.

  1. While activation after a restore requires a sim card, it doesn't have to be an active one. It does have to be with the carrier the phone is locked to, so your original sim card will work just fine.
  2. If you get a new sim card, you're not required to update or restore to activate it. Just plug it in the device.
