How to fix some mysterious problems.

I bought my iPhone 4S back in November and I have yet to update it because I wanted to wait for a Jailbreak to come out. I currently have IOS6 installed and I was wondering if It was okay if I were to update to 6.1 from itunes, definitely not from OTA. And if I did update, would that mean that I was stuck with a tethered jailbreak on Sunday or would I have an unthethered one?

I was reading from and it said:

The jailbreak, entitled evasi0n, will work with the iPhone 5, 4S, 4, 3GS, fourth and fifth-generation iPod Touch, the iPad Mini and the iPad 3 and 4. Since the release of Apple's latest version of its mobile OS and the iPhone 5 on September 19 and September 20, respectively, only a tethered jailbreak has been released.

The upcoming jailbreak is untethered for all 6.x devices. (minus the ATV3)

The tethered jailbreak that article refers to is the already existing jailbreak for A4 devices. It won't work on the 4S.
