How to fix some mysterious problems.

Hi everyone. I, just like everyone else, am waiting for the 6.1 jailbreak to come out. I've been using a Gevey for some time now in an iPhone 4. Every time I update the FW I create a custom one using sn0wbreeze so it doesn't update the baseband. My question is, will I be able to do the same with 6.1?? As long as I don't update the baseband it should be ok, right?? Thank you.

You should hold off on updating. I'm told 6.x breaks Gevey regardless of baseband.

I use Ultra S on my iPhone 4 6.0.1 without any problems. Yes FuriosMod and UltraSnwoCN do not work with 6.x but Gevey on its own works the same as on 5.1.1

Oh awesome. You're the first person to confirm that it does work.

In that case redsn0w can restore while preserving the baseband. Redsn0w- Extras- Even More- Restore

Thank you everyone for your answers. As soon as the jailbreak comes out and UltraSnowCN/FuriousMod gets updated, I'll post again to tell you whether the unlock works or not.

Thanks again

I doubt we'll see FuriousMod/UltrasnowCN for 6.x as they seem out of development. Nevertheless confirmed working: Gevey Ultra S with iPhone 4 (A4) on 6.1 with 04.10.01 baseband.

I have a problem with my gevey now i updated to 6.1. Always says invalid sim :( how does the ultrasnow 1.6b5 work with that? Need topress anything still? Used ultrasnowcn 1.5 before and it's not working now that i updated. Can you help me? Iphone 4 with bb 02.10.04 running on ios 6.1 also, what repo did you use to install that version of ultrasnowcn?

Also, my gevey sim is a gevey ultra

Ok, this is what I did. Without the gevey inside the phone, I downloaded Piracy from Piracy. Then I registered it (it's pirated so don't worry) and turned the phone off. I put the gevey in, booted the phone and it didn't work. I tried calling 111 (not 112), which is a Piracy feature to reset the baseband (it simply resets the whole process without having to reboot the phone). It didn't work, I rebooted the phone and still nothing, but almost got it. I rebooted again, and it worked flawlessly, and it still works everytime I reboot. And when I do it I always follow the same process: Turn on the phone, unlock the phone and wait at the springboard without touching anything until the NO SIM message appears. I don't dismiss it, I wait for the phone to do it itself. It does, I wait 3 more minutes and I finally get signal. Try doing it like I did and tell me how it goes.

Ok, so I'm going to answer my own question. Here's the deal. I finally updated to 6.1 using Sn0wbreeze 2.9.9 . The gevey still works, and not only that but, UltrasnowCN also works!. Seriously, UltrasnowCN 1.6b5 works in 6.1. At first I had to reboot the phone a couple of times, but since then it works flawlessly.

So for those wondering about updating or not, do it, it's OK. My specs, in case somebody wants to know:

iPhone 4

iOS 6.1

Baseband 03.10.01

Gevey Ultra (not Ultra S)

UltrasnowCN 1.6b5

If you have any questions, submit them below and I'll reply as soon as I can. Oh and again, thank you everyone for your replies.

I usually never write in forums or pages like these, but when I heared that the hacktivation works with the new Sn0wbreeze 2.9.9 and saw your post I had to try it out. Voila it is working !

Downloaded Piracy from [piracy repoo removed] like you did. Then I registered and turned the phone off too.I rebooted it serveral times and waited, but it didn't worked. Then I tried something out and it WORKED !!! I went to settings - network and switch the automatic button off ,after some seconds my carrier appeared :)

Thanks !!!

still no luck. Did what you did, it always ends up with no sim card pop up then sim failure. And it says invalid sim :(

Yes you can use redsn0w to:

1) Build a 6.1 ipsw without the bb update 2) Flash directly with redsn0w without the need to rebuild the official IPSW.

Confirmed: Gevey sim for iOS 6.0.1 works on iOS 6.1.

You don't need to preserve the baseband (no way to preserve the basebnd on 4S).

Good Luck!

Huh...? It's a Gevey Ultra, not an Ultra S. And it's an iPhone 4, not a 4S.

Anyway, thank you everyone for your answers. As soon as the jailbreak comes out and UltraSnowCN/FuriousMod gets updated, I'll post again to tell if the unlock works or not.

Thanks again

you can't build a custon "6.1 ipsw" on the latest redsn0w (0.9.15 beta 3). it wont even accept 6.1...

Not for jailbreaking it won't, but for restoring it will.

(05 Feb '13, 01:05) spockers ♦♦ spockers's gravatar image

must be on my side. i tried restoring to 6.1 (from 5.1.1) using redsn0w with baseband preservation, i couldn't get out of the "recovery fix" part. not even using tinyumbrella. (iPhone4 GSM)

(05 Feb '13, 01:34) dogyot dogyot's gravatar image

Use ifaith 1.5.1 to create a stitch ipsw. Then use itunes to restore. Worked for me to update from 5.11 to 6.1

(05 Feb '13, 02:02) ha8heat ha8heat's gravatar image

I too couldnt get out of the "recovery fix" thingy. i rolled back to 5.1.1

(05 Feb '13, 02:03) wasp wasp's gravatar image

wait... does iFaith preserve basebands? i think it only does blob dumps? @ha8heat.

(05 Feb '13, 02:13) dogyot dogyot's gravatar image

Yes, ifaith does baseband preservation. Choose the option "Stitch ipsw".

(05 Feb '13, 02:22) ha8heat ha8heat's gravatar image

@dogyot - the option in ifaith is "Build signed ipsw w/blobs"

(05 Feb '13, 02:23) ha8heat ha8heat's gravatar image

Hmmmm... sn0wbreeze has already been updated to 2.9.8, really. I'm building my IPSW right now. Even though I won't use it until an update for UltrasnowCN comes out and until people start getting out of Cydia.

Again, like I said, I'll tell you how it ends up working.

(05 Feb '13, 04:13) AceVader0 AceVader0's gravatar image

As long as you are using a genuine Gevey Ultra for the iPhone 4 and not a pirated copy. You can build a custom no baseband ipsw using sn0wbreeze. Activate with original carrier SIM via iTunes. The install Gevey Ultra and your preferred carrier's SIM card. No jailbreak is required for this to work.
