You can save your 6.1 shsh on your computer using the latest tinyumbrella or you can just let cydia save it for you in cydia servers once you jailbreak 6.1 and open cydia when 6.1 is still the latest version.

See the JailbreakQA FAQ guide to SHSH blobs:

What do the words "SHSH blobs" mean? SHSH blobs are digital signature files unique to your device.

Why are SHSH blobs important? Apple only allows you to restore to the iOS versions (firmwares) they "sign" (by providing SHSH blobs), in order to prevent you from restoring to earlier versions that may be easier to jailbreak. Apple's "signing" of each iOS version only lasts for a limited time, usually just for as long as that iOS version is the latest version available. Once Apple stops signing an iOS version, there is no way to restore that version again, unless you have SHSH blobs saved for that version (and even then, it's not always possible on newer devices). If your device is currently on a version that Apple is no longer signing, restoring with iTunes will upgrade your device to the latest version available for your device.

In other words, you don't need to worry about them unless you're upgrading or downgrading your device to an iOS version that isn't the latest version. If you're just jailbreaking, SHSH blobs are unimportant.

No, SHSH are not required to Jailbreak. However they are required for a downgrade which isn't in your interest when you first jailbreak Cydia will automatically save your SHSH blobs for you.
