When I jailbreak my phone will I be able to just insert a SIM card from another carrier and be able to use it?

That is called unlocking.

Jailbreaking and unlocking are different.

Unlocking depends on the type of phone, iOS version, and original carrier.

So how can I unlock my phone? It is a iPhone 4s from Sprint. I recently updated it to the iOS 6.1 version. Can I do this myself? @curly420

See our guide to carrier unlocking - as it says, the best option is to call Sprint and ask for an official unlock.

They won't do it because the phone is on another account that is currently active but on seasonal standby.

CDMA phones (sprint or verizon) are tricky to unlock.. the are 'double locked' Carrier and Region locked.

You won't be able to use it on another CDMA carrier without Sprints permission and even if you do unlock the GSM side (you can buy an IMEI unlock) it will not work in the USA.
