Hello all i have a quick question. Ive been researching the different redsnow version and am afraid im confused. I have an old 3gs running IOS 5.1.1 with baseband 5.16.05. Id like to jaibreak it but not update the ios. Im familiar with jailbreaking but at a total loss on unlocking. Ive never attempted it. Is there a simple redsnow that will jaibreak and preserve whatever i might need later to unlock.? Also since i dont intend to ever leave this country should i even worry about unlocking or preserving baseband? Is redsnow 9.12 the one for untethered or is it 9.13, 9.15.? As i stated ive confused my self, all i need is an untethered easy to use jaibreak for 3gs 5.1.1. Thanks for all the knowledge so far from this forum.
The last untethered for the 3gs " new bootrom " is 5.1.1 using redsn0w or sn0wbreeze. 6.0.1 is still tethered, unless you have an " old bootrom "
5.16.05 is not unlock-able with a software unlock " ultrasn0w "
you only need to preserve your baseband if it's unlock-able with " ultrasn0w "
The supported basebands for the iPhone 3G and 3GS - 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01, 05.13.04, and 06.15.00.
The baseband supported for the iPhone4 is 01.59.00.
IF using a 3g or 3gs you can flash the baseband to the ipad bb and back to " 05.13 " if your device is safe to flash. To find out if you can flash your device read this..
Open your settings and go to
( General > About > Serial Number )
3rd digit is the single digit year.
(9 is 2009, 0 is 2010, 1 is 2011)
4th and 5th is the 2 digit week number. A year has 52 weeks. (35 is week 35, 11 is week 11, etc)
is a 2010 week 49 and is safe to flash.
is a 2011 week 36 and should NOT be flashed.
Hope this helps clear things up for you :)
If you do an unofficial unlock you will need to preserve the baseband to prevent update the baseband. You need to backup your files with iTunes. This the way to stay unlock with ultrasn0w. You need redsn0w 0.9.13 b1. You don't need to enter DFU mode for this version, you just plug in your iDevice and press Jailbreak. The redsn0w work in your iDevice do not touch or do anything with your device or redsn0w or it will stuck in DFU Mode just ask me a question and I'm going to give to answers how to exit DFU mode. When it finished just open Cydia, choose User, wait until it finished loaded the files. Don't worry about stuck in reboot loop. When it finished loaded the files it will reboot one to two times.
