Help with jailbreaking and Cydia for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches.

Question

I purchased a used iPhone 3GS that had been jailbroken and unlocked with Cydia. It was originally locked to my network, so I wanted to un-jailbreak it and upgrade to iOS 6 and use it without jailbreak.

So, I did a Reset All Content & Settings, and then plugged it into iTunes and did an upgrade. Now, I can't get past the activation screen - it just says the activation server is temporarily unavailable.

What do I need to do to get this phone usable? I'm reading lots online about people that want to jailbreak, but there's not much info on those that want to un-jailbreak. Those that do usually have a backup of the phone on iTunes to restore from, but since the phone is new to me, I have nothing to restore to.

Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Enter DFU Mode and hit restore in iTunes..

I did a DFU restore, took about 30 minutes, but now it still gets stuck at the activation screen - tries to activate (via Wifi or through iTunes), but it just says "activation server is temporarily unavailable".

The only way that can bypass the activation screen is all you need to have is iExplorer 3, redsn0w. First you need plug in your device and jailbreak with redsn0w. Next start iExplorer 3 go to Root> Application> choose setup.app and right click hit delete. After that reboot your phone

I'd really rather not hacktivate - I just want to reset the phone to it's original state pre-jailbreak so I can use it on the network it's locked to. I did a DFU restore, but now it's stuck at the activation screen - won't activate. Any suggestions? Another way to factory reset or restore? Is there something wrong with the baseband from when it was jailbroken?

If it won't activate, then you either have the wrong sim, or you had the iPad baseband (6.15) and restored to iOS 6, corrupting the baseband and making it unuseable. Again, what is the model number?
