How to fix some mysterious problems.

I purchased a Att iphone 4s and it was working on att. I purchased a "factory unlock" from ebay. I restored the phone and got the message from itunes "Congratulations your phone is unlocked" inserted my t-mobile cut down sim that is working in my iphone 3gs. (it still works in the 3gs with the adapter) I have searched and searched and at my limit. I can not get any phone service. I got a new micro sim from t-mobile today and activated it. restarted, rebooted, restored it. turned off automatic carrier and selected t-mobile, turned on and off airplane mode. Everything I can find I have tried but still no service. The micro sim works in my 3gs but not in the 4s. Right now I have an expensive itouch. Please, any help?

have you tried any other sims? to rule out a hardware issue.

It was working on a ATT sim before I bought it. I have another att sim but it is not activated. I have tried the cut down t-mobile sim. I thought it may be a problem so I got a new micro sim from t-mobile today. Both of those sims work in my 3GS phone but those are all I have access to right now.

Hm that is odd especially since you got a new one. I would try borrowing a friends sim to test, but i can't really think of a reason it wouldn't work.

I suppose the phone could be blacklisted depending on its history..

If the prior owner who used ATT, blacklisted it would that cause it to not work on t-mobile? I thought since it was able to be unlocked that ment it was not black listed.

The most likely issue is the SIM card. If it was a "self cut" SIM, the card was likely damaged and how now been rendered inoperable. Please try with an official micro SIM available from your local T-Mobile authorised dealer. Best wishes!

I got a new micro sim today from the t-mobile store. I thought I may have damaged the one I cut down but it still worked in my 3GS phone with a adapter. I went and got the new one anyway today and activated it but still no service. I have it in my 3gs phone (with a adapter) now and it is working so I am not with out a phone.

If it is blacklisted, it won't work on any network. This is a new thing in the USA.

Great! So I have a iPod touch. Is there a way ro check the imei# to see if black listed? What is to keep anyone from blacklisting the phone and making an insurance claim after they sell it? Is this ATT's way to increase sales of new phones? There is no way to feel comfortable buying a used phone?

Borrow a working at&t sim and insert in the phone. If it has signal, then it is not blacklisted.

I was finally able to borrow a working At&T sim. I inserted it and it searched and then showed att in the corner and I was able to make a call. Could the unlock not be working? I checked on a couple different services and they both show that it is unlocked, but It wont find service with a known working t-mobile sim

Well I got my hopes up when I was able to make a call on it with an AT&T sim but just got a imei check report from imei-dot-info and it said it is blocked. So I guess I have an ipod touch. Maybe I can swap for a blocked one overseas which I'm not too comfortable with or sell for parts to recoup some money. Lesson learned, buyer beware!

Call apple for definite info on device status.

after you got it unlocked did u put it in itunes and update it , try to update it first and see it it works then if not then you must update and restore , this stinks because you may lose your info so back it up first to save your data , ,and if it is blacklisted or stolen it will unlock , I do not know where these people who think they know answers do not know what they are talking about , this must be done after every unlock on all Iphones ,let us know how it works out
