Help with jailbreaking and Cydia for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches.

evasi0n7 can jailbreak iOS 7.0-7.0.6 untethered. p0sixspwn can jailbreak iOS 6.1.3-6.1.5 untethered (see here for 6.1.6).
How to jailbreak iOS 7.0-7.0.6 (and fix problems). iOS 7.1.x is not jailbreakable, except an unsupported tethered iPhone 4 jailbreak.
Restoring or updating will update your device to iOS 7.1.1 and remove your jailbreak. There is no way to downgrade from iOS 7.1.x to 7.0.x.

It weird that you have iPad baseband and had it unlocked when your phone is factory unlocked, Model ZA suffix means it's from Singapore, all iPhones in SG are FU. You are in luck that you have an old bootrom unit, it means you will be untethered JB on any firmware.

Download 6.0 ipsw and 6.0.1 ipsw and redsn0w 9.15b3. Restore to 6.0.1 using redsn0w/extras/even more/restore/browse for 6.0.1. Select prevent baseband update when prompted. Do redsn0w/extras/select ipsw/browse for downloaded 6.0 ipsw then jailbreak using redsn0w/jailbreak/tick install cydia. Once done, do select ipsw again and go to redsn0w/jailbreak/tick downgrade baseband. It should fix your gps and no you do not need to install ultrasn0w unlock.

hi.. Thanks for your reply... My unit has new bootroom.... I checked it using idetector...... Does the above procedure apply for new bootroom unit also??

Are you certain it is new? Lower than 42 for 4th and 5th with 9 for 3rd digit of serial are always old. Check again. To identify if your 3Gs is old or new bootrom. Using latest redsn0w, go to extras/even more/identify. Place device in DFU mode. Check bootrom, if 359.3 = old, if 359.3.2+ = new. Press power+home, release both on apple to kick out of DFU mode. Let me know if it is 359.3 or 359.3.2+.

I am certain that my iphone has new bootrom... Two confirmation... 1. Placed my device on DFU mode and checked using idetector. 2. From web, i came to know that all MC series have new bootrom. Correct me if i am wrong. However i was not able to perform the check that u specified above. After placing my device on DFU mode if i click identify nothing is showing up.

Not all MC models are new bootrom.

If you are sure that it is new, it is tethered jb on 6.0.1. You can restore using redsn0w to 5.0.1 for an untethered JB.

So what should i now?? i am confused my friend. Could you please explain in little more detailed?? I also checked your method to find if old or new bootrom. It is new bootrom. It showed 359.3.2

Download 5.0.1 ipsw. Go to redsn0w/extras/even more/restore, browse for the 5.0.1 ipsw, choose remote, let it restore choose prevent baseband update on prompt. After restore, do redsn0w/jailbreak/install cydia. Once done do redsn0w/jailbreak/downgrade baseband. Done.

Ok.. got it... thanks... will try that and get back...

@justinred the cutoff is week 40, not 42, although 41 could very well be old bootrom since it's so close, and week 39 could be new.

@justinred: I am trying to restore.. but it is just not happening... It says "restore couldnot complete because iphone is in DFU mode." But redsn0w promted me to put in DFU mode which i did... So what do i do??

(15 Jan '13, 04:18) sherear sherear's gravatar image

Finally things are working... Thanks a lot @justinred... Restarted my iphone (pressing home+power button) to solve the DFU mode problem.... Didnt have any roadblocks after that...

Let me summarize what i did.

  1. Download 5.0.1 ipsw
  2. Download redsn0w 9.15b3
  3. Place above 2 files in a separate folder.
  4. Go to redsn0w/extras/even more/restore, browse for the 5.0.1 ipsw, choose remote, let it restore choose prevent baseband update on prompt. After restore, do redsn0w/jailbreak/install cydia. Once done do redsn0w/jailbreak/downgrade baseband

Problems faced:

  1. Redsn0w said restore couldnot complete because iphone is in DFU mode. Let me tell u wat i did: Restarted my iphone by pressing power + home button) then copied SQLite3.dll file from C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAppleApple Application Support (Windows 7 64 bit) to the folder where redsn0w and 5.0.1 ipsw were present.

2.While downgrading baseband iphone got stuck in apple logo while rebooting after downgraded. It never rebooted. So i waited for 1 hour and then lost patience and manually rebooted again. It worked....!!!!
