How to fix some mysterious problems.

I apologize, in advance, to all of the technologically inclined here for my lack of knowledge in this field...

I now realize that one cannot update the iOS of a jailbroken iPhone, so skipping that part, I was hoping somebody could help me sort out the problem.

I have a 3GS (bought in Canada with Rogers) that I updated to the newest iOS... iTunes prompted me to restore in order to get the iOS on there.

Then the phone came back on with the whole Activation bit, which did not work with wifi or through iTunes.

From what I read on here, I understand the phone is now back to factory settings (obviously no longer unlocked) and that I could try restoring/downgrading it to an older iOS in order to get it working again.

I downloaded the newest version of redsn0w that I could find (redsn0w_mac_0.9.15b3) and iPhone2,1_5.1.1_9B206_Restore.ipsw in order to do this...

I ran into several problems around SHSH blobs and missing key-dot-somethings.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated and please be kind to the un-techsavvy who really did try to sort it out on her own.

Another thing to note might be that I have very limited and depressingly slow access to internet as I am in Malawi, Africa. An iPhone keeps one sane while living here...

Thanks very very much to anybody who tries to help!

You must select the 6.0 IPSW not 6.0.1.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean - the one that I am trying to restore the phone to? As a bove, I downloaded the 5.1.1 to downgrade to, and had updated TO 6.0.1 Does that help to clarify?

Select the 6.0 IPSW in redsn0w before jailbreaking. You get the missing keys.plist due to selecting 6.0.1 IPSW.
