If you tap "Update" in the App Store and the app opens instead of updating, this is an Apple bug instead of anything related to your jailbreak.

Basically, my iPod touch 4 32GB's top power/lock/sleep button has stopped working.

So I though I would jailbreak it again, I am quite 'experienced' with jailbreaking, and have done it many times before using many different tools etc. but never on a device that can't physically get into DFU mode... So I thought I'd try this DFU IPSW that you can make in RedSn0w. I made it and successfully booted into DFU mode.

I then tried to jailbreak in RedSn0w, but it failed whilst uploading the 2nd stage.

So I went to Sn0wbreeze, this made the custom IPSW, I tried shift-restoring to the IPSW it put's on your desktop but it gets to the end and gives me error 1600, I read that iH8Sn0w updated iREB to make it work with error 1600, but maybe not with DFU IPSWs? As I tried using his standalone iREB6 from iH8Sn0w.com, and got the same error when attempting to restore in iTunes.

Is it not working because of this DFU IPSW? If so, how can I fix it? Is it possible to get into DFU without using the IPSW?

Try again. iTunes errors for DFU IPSW is normal. Just ignore them. The best option would be to get the button fixed as being a tethered jailbreak, it is going to be hard for you with a broken power button.

But the error comes up when it should be installing the jailbroken OS to my iPod.

So I am still stuck in DFU IPSW :(

So if I reinstall the DFU IPSW, and then use iREB, then try installing the jailbroken OS again?

I did think of getting it repaired, but it's over 2 years old so Apple wouldn't do it for free, and I think they charge like £100 for a refurbished one?

Just get the button done. Also what is the error when jailbreaking?

In redsn0w it just says some generic error, can't remember it exactly, but it's like 'update failed' or something.

Just tried doing it all again and iTunes gave me error 1600 again :(

Can you email Apple or do you have to go to a store and speak to genius?

I think its best to go to the genius bar in the store.

Okay, what else can I try to get it jailbroken?

I'll try emailing them or something first as my nearest store is quite far away
