Hello everyone i searched for the answer to this question but found conflicting opinions on the issue. So here we go Do you need an active sim installed in iphone 3gs to jailbreak? Someone said you dont even need a sim but i believe that to be incorrect, is it possible to jailbreak without a sim installed at all? Thanks And I did look for an answer before i ask again. |

No, you do not need a sim. You can jailbreak with redsn0w and it will automatically hacktivate the phone if it doesn't see a valid sim card. Thanks spockers very much! I finally got to vote I gave you a thumbs up, it was my first time to be able to vote. 1

Yes. Anything below a 4S can be hacktivated, but it's still best to activate with a sim from the carrier it's locked to (the sim doesn't have to have service on it). Okay heres another question if its still on 4.2.1 should she update it so it can be unlocked by att? If she does update then is it possible just to go to a certain ios such as 5.1.1 and stop or does it have to be the 6.0.1 thats available now? Last one suppose she updates to unlock will she be able to use the same redsnow as you said to get a untethered jailbreak or will it be tethered? There is alot of stuff on web for 3gs but the 3 g is hardly mentioned. Thank you for all the answers in advance. 1
