How to fix some mysterious problems.

Hello Everyone,

So here's the deal after a whole day of desperate research.

Current firmware 5.0.1 IPhone 4

Blobs after clicking on query blobs via redsn0w iPhone3,1 xxxxxxxxxxx remote blobs: 6.0.1, 5.1.1, 5.1, 5.0.1, 4.3.5, 4.3.4, 4.3.3

So what im trying to do is upgrade my 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 (I was never on 5.1.1 before)

Steps i took:

1- Downloaded 5.1.1 firmware 2- Stitched the blobs remotly via redsn0w 3- Entered PWND DFU mode 4- Edited host file to comment out Apple servers 4- ran tinyumbrella and started TSS 5- Started iTunes 11 6- Tried restoring to custom firmware

7 - GOT ERROR 1600 ( My cable is fine and i tried plugging in in every single USB slot)

Am i doing something wrong here? Will i be able to upgrade ?

Please Help !

since you have the 5.1.1 blob that you need already, you are ready to start the process. you will need the latest version to redsn0w redsn0w , you can get that there. this got to this link, to the section that matches you with the iphone 4, and start following step by step. I think you have all the tool you need now, but if there are and troubles, let us know! ;-))

you will not be able to upgrade to 5.1.1 because you do not have the blob, and it no longer being signed. There are other firmwares that you could use, what are you goals in the whole process. what do you need to get out of it?

Nothing major really, But there are some apps i want to download and they are only compatible with 5.1.x .

I have a question and please excuse me if you feel its stupid? Do you have to be on the firmware to get its blobs or can you do it even when your on a lower version?

There are no stupid questions here!!! Blobs are gotten two different way, you have you jailbroken device running that firmware and open Cydia, that will save the blob fir that firmware, or during an opening singing period from apple you can obtain a blob of a firmware your not necessarily on. does that anser you question?

Thank you farah :)

Worked like a charm. I used redsn0w >> Extras >> Even More >> Restore >> Selected 5.1.1 firmware and RedSn0w took care of the rest. This upgraded my iphone to 5.1.1 , I then jailbroke it using the standard Redsn0w jailbreak process

Much appreciated.
