Were you previously unlocked? When you ran PwnageTool, did you select "Upgrade the Baseband"?

Before, I was on stock 4.2.1, never jailbroken. And I believe that option was grayed out either way.

Hmm. Well, I just restored my iPhone4 with a PwnageTool 4.2 firmware, and not seeing that... I'd say reboot, and if that doesn't fix it, try again

I think you're ahead of the curve here, might have to wait for a few more people to use PT4.2 and see their results.

Restoring to stock FW in iTunes... First, error 1600, then error 1024 (I think?) Trying again...

I keep getting error 1013 trying to restore...

I am having the same problem, and I used Greenpois0n RC6.1. I have one bar and no carrier logo. For about 5 seconds every 5 minutes...the Rogers logo will show, and then disappears again.

Just to follow up on my previous comment...a weird thing is happening. As soon as I start and run carrier logo reappears. As soon as I close Cydia, my carrier logo disappears.

installing ultrasn0w seems to fix this problem. also updated a iphone 4 from 4.0 to 4.2.1 maintaining baseband, and got only one bar. Installed ultraSn0w and that brings back logo and 5 bars (i never have 5 bars here)

Error 1013 is generally the baseband update error. It generally means that the restore/update was ok, but not the baseband update. You should be able to use TinyUmbrella to kick it out of recovery mode and all should be back to normal.

Just for a note, too, I ran PwnageTool 4.2, no TinyUmbrella running in the background, and my baseband was preserved with no 1013 error.

When using a custom firmware from PwnagetTool or Sn0wbreeze, they usually don't do the baseband update (option is disabled in current version I think), so no need for TU, and no 1013 error.
