will upgrading from 4.1 to 4.2.1 upgrade the baseband also? i am using a factory unlocked phone anyway. would like to know what is the difference between basebands. seems many people concern about it. |
the basebands that came with FW 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 are unlockable, the newer basebands that came with 4.1 and 4.2.1 are still not unlockable. the baseband that came with 4.1 is unlockable but older than the one with 4.2.1, it would be safer if you maintain the older baseband in case you care to unlock in the future. for iPhone 3G/3GS you will need to cook/customize a firmware (by removing the baseband part) before flashing the FW in order to preserve the baseband, the same could be done for iPhone4, although there is an easier way for iPhone 4 using TinyUmbrella as described below: http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/p/prevent-iphone4-baseband-update.html customizing the FW can be done using Pwnage Tool, more dtails on this at the following site: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ |
Yes it will upgrade the baseband. The only changes that were made were to prevent it being unlocked via Ultrasn0w As you have a factory unlocked baseband you never have to worry about upgrading you baseband. Its only people who need the unofficial unlock that need to worry about the baseband. |
