How to fix some mysterious problems.

I have an iPhone 4, carrier locked to at&t but I'm using NET10 for service. Everything works except for iMessage & FaceTime. I can't get it to link my cellphone number only by email address. It says "waiting for activation..."

So far I tried resetting the phone, resetting network settings, and even taking the sim card out and restarting the phone, etc. No luck. The phone is not jailbroken. It's on version iOS 6.0.1

Can you guys please help me get this solved? Thanks

How is it unlocked to Net10? Either way, its not jailbroken (you said so), so there isnt much we can do besides refer you to Net10 or Apple for help

Edit - Net10 is provided by TracPhone, so im guessing you are using a gevey, no facetime or imessage by cell number with a gevey. No way no how

No its not unlocked to net10. I'm not using gevey either the sim card goes right into the slot.

If I were to jailbreak it (using the tethered method) what can I do to fix it?

does it make phone calls with net10?

Yes. Everything works as it would on a normal carrier

then its not locked to at&t

contact net 10 and see if they support international sms (my guess is they dont and its blocked). international is needed because to activate facetime and imessage the device sends a sms in the background to a uk number to activate it.

really all we can do, we arent net10 support nor apple, and the device is not jailbroken (no jailbreaking it wont help fix this)

If your iPhone is Software or Factory Unlocked. You can get iMessage and FaceTime to work. There is the really complicated way by going about a jailbreak or you can also make sure you device is not hacktivated (jailbroken prior to activation with the original carrier, presumably AT&T). You will need to make sure that the SIM you are using has Long Distance SMS "enabled" via your carrier. You need this because both iMessage and FaceTime activate by sending an SMS to a UK number. You can have it bypass this if you go the complicated jailbreak method by changing the plist files. Hope this helps.

Good news. Turns out it magically fixed itself after simply leaving the phone alone. iMessage and FaceTime now works via my cellphone number. All I have to get working now is MMS and I'm good to go.

MMS is easy, if you are not using an official iPhone carrier, you will need to manually add your carrier's APN and MMS settings in Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data. You can obtain the correct setting from your carrier.

I done research I know that. Only downfall is that option isn't available to me I even tried using a AT&T sim card but no luck.

You can enable this option several ways, but for the sake of simplicity, this is the easiest method, insert a SIM that allows APN editing, (phone must be factory unlocked for this to work), then edit the apn info, remove the sim and place the desired sim back in. The other and more difficult options are to change it via a jailbreak, or to edit your iTunes back up and restore the data. Hope that helps!
