iPhone 4s/5.1.1 JB w Absinthe. I (like many) updated from Whatsapp 2.8.4 to 2.8.6 on 11/17/2012 and now Whatsapp crashes upon execution. I deleted / re-installed-- nothing works to make it not crash upon launch. Anybody else out there with this happening, a solution? It's conclusively a jailbreak bug, the devs ask first before troubleshooting if phones are jailbroken because it's known that the jailbreaks freak out Whatsapp. All was fine before the upgrade to 2.8.6 Things I've tried 1. Reset Network Settings 2. Delete Facebook- there was a known Facebook bug- so i removed it to nail it down. 3. Delete the application- Re-install (more than once) 4. Download IPA of older version 5. Removed almost all jailbreak tweaks |
Hiya, just dropping in to say i might have found a solution... Download SBSettings from Cydia Open it, go to Mobile Substrate Addons Make sure Whatsapp is set to OFF Respring Should work! (I had a longer post but it didn't go so this is the abbreviated version xD) Let me know if it helps! 1
that disables whatsapp, of course it wont crash then.... 1
That's what I thought would happen, but it definitly fixed my problem :/ I think it has to do specifically with THIS update though, I'm not sure Or maybe my iPhone's bugging out in the weirdest of ways because everything else is set to ON other than whatsapp, and it's working perfectly :/ 1
I solved it by removing Mobile Substrate (which takes all installed extensions with it) --then installing 1 @ a time and going through a respring with each instance. Ultimately i couldn't identify an extension, my conclusion after much research is that Whatsapp is just a nazi as far as code interaction. It has all sorts of instances of instant crash from Android to Windows phone. For us in the jailbreak community though if that solution works by disabling in Substrate then it's easier than my solve. Either way- there are 2 options if people can't get it going otherwise. Indeed! Side note; I don't know much about any of this but it looks to me like in the mobile substrate addons list there's only tweaks and tweaking apps. Which makes me think the new Whatsapp update adds a tweak that disables its use on jbed phones. And that tweak is what you disable in the addons, not the whole app. That and how the dev didn't reply once you said your phone was JB just seemed to fit. In either case, another problem solved! And from multiple angles too, AWESOME @Slicerman Did you personally look for WhatsApp in Mobile Substrate addons? If so, do you have any WhatsApp-related tweaks installed? It is very unlikely that WhatsApp could manage to install a tweak along with the app - it's just not allowed for an App Store app to do that. It's much more likely that WhatsApp is using a method to detect that a device is jailbroken. |
Whatsapp 2.8.6 works perfectly fine on my 5.1.1 JBed.
It works for me when i disable all extensions. But it doesn't work when i reboot with extensions. Trying to solve out the weasel in mix.
Try uninstalling MobileSubstrate - this will also uninstall all tweaks. Now reinstall your tweaks one by one, checking WhatsApp after every respring. Whichever tweak you installed before WhatsApp starts crashing is most likely the culprit.
The good news is i'm through the "must have" list and haven't found the culprit. I can't thank you enough for that simple suggestion, I did't know mobile substrate would take all the offenders with it when it went out the door. Glorious. I've been dealing with the total hell scenario, 1600s on 5.1.1 - no ability to restore back to 5.1.1 from a bug that won't allow pwned firmwares to restore. All the way down the path to finally giving up my own investigations and giving into crowd knowledge. Lesson learned, problem solved in 15minutes of collaboration. :) I'd hug you if the internets wasn't in between us. -reporting back once i find the devil- I pretty much have only mainstream tweaks so whatever the combo is will take the thorn out of many a foot.
WhatsApp crashes for me, but boots fine in SafeMode. FaceBook crashes if trying to type a comment or status update. Also works fine in SafeMode. Previous versions did not crash. Might just have to revert to older versions for now. Hope you saved them in iTunes!
