I had this question, a time ago i´ve jailbroken my iPhone 4S with Absinthe2.0.2. But now i want to update my iphone to the newest firmware IOS 6.0.1. So i went to this store to ask if it was possible without bricking my phone, and he said yes you could but you should do that from your iTunes and then Check For Updates and set up as a new iphone. And my question here was, is this true? and do other people do it the same way?
(by the way im not jailbreaking it anymore)
Ok, First make sure that u backed up all ur media onto ur computer, or if u are using icloud u will be able to retrieve ur data through icloud after the upgrade. This includes all ur apps, music, contacts, camera role ext... U can also right click on the phone image on the sidebar on iTunes and the Backup option will appear. I recommend u update through iTunes because there is a chance the wireless upgrade will not work on jailbroken devices. Once u backup everything, u can go ahead with the upgrade. after selecting the upgrade option, press the download and install option. The download will be around 700 MB. the installation will begin by backing up your device, just incase u dont back it up in the previous step, this will be covered here. If the installation fails then choose the restore option, dont worry, everything is backed up. once u have restored it it will automatically update ur iphone to the latest firmware package, in ur case ios 6.0.1. Once the restore takes place then u can restore from backup.
Dont worry there is no way ur phone will be bricked after these steps, everything is backed up either to ur icloud account or onto ur computer.
