How to fix some mysterious problems.

I have recently updated my already jailbroken iphone 3gs (new bootroom) while preserving ipad baseband (06.15.00) from 4.2.1 to 5.1.1 with sn0wbreeze-v2.9.6 and then unlocked it via ultrasnow. Can I use redsn0w 0.9.15b3 to update to ios 6.0.1 or do I have to downgrade the baseband first and then update to ios 6.0.1.? Also, will ultrasnow unlock my iphone 3gs after installing ios 6.0.1?

Yes you can preserve and update. Also you can unlock with ultrasn0w + ultrasn0w fixer.

But it would be better to wait for an untethered jailbreak, correct?

Since you asked about untethered jb, stay at 5.1.1. Nothing much to see in 6.0.1. Just do redsn0w downgrade baseband now.

So, if I do redsn0w downgrade baseband this will help for when the untethered jailbreak 6.0.1 comes out?

No but it will fix your broken gps.

I dont really mind the gps but I've read somewhere that when you have ipad baseband (06.15.00)and ios 5.1.1, in order to update to ios 6.0.1 you need to install ios 6.0.0 first and then proceed to ios 6.0.1. Is this the case?
