No service on iPhone 3g after updating to 4.2.1, help! |
|
Unless you upgraded to 4.2.1 using a custom firmware from PwnageTool to preserve your baseband, 4.2.1 will have updated your baseband to 05.14.02 or 05.15.04, neither of which are currently unlockable. Your options at this point are:
If you absolutely must have your unlock, follow one of the guides below: |
Were you previously unlocked?
Yes, and everything worked fine for 2 years
My firmware is 05.14.02 which I am now seeing in other threads online may not be compatible.. ughh..
Should I update my baseband to 06.15.00? What are the downsides?
Downsides include the possibility of Bluetooth and GPS not working. Also, it makes it EXTREMELY obvious to Apple that you hacked it, therefore you lose your warranty. And there is no way to reverse it.
I don't have a warranty anyways, I bought the phone online almost two years ago. I do use bluetooth all the time, so that would be bad to lose. Is there any other way with 05.14.02 to get service??
No, I'm afraid not at the moment. You can either wait for a possible unlock for 05.14.02 (no ETA is provided, though it may be coming soon after iOS 4.3 is released), or use 06.15.00. I think bluetooth issues have been much rarer, however.
PS - if your 3G is old enough, and still has bootloader 5.8, you can follow this guide to downgrade to 05.13, which is unlockable using ultrasn0w: http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-downgrade-iphone-06.15.00-baseband-to-05.13.xx-iphone-3g-bootloader-5.8-only/
