How to fix some mysterious problems.

iphone 4s 5.1 jailbroken. tried to update. unknow error (9 i think it might have been). Phone will not enter DFU mode. It'stuck on connect to itunes screen and I ca't get it off. I can get the apple logo back up but after a few seconds of processing it just switches back to the connect to itunes screen. Tiny umbrella didn't work either.

The recovery mode fix won't work on your device, as the DFU mode exploit it uses (limera1n) only works on older devices. Error 9 seems to mean you should try rebooting your computer.

I just hoped that you backup & transfer all your purchases before you did the update.

Restore it again via DFU mode, But you'll have to restore it to iOS 6 since 5.1.1 has already stopped its signing.

iTunes and App Store purchases can always be redownloaded in iTunes or via the Purchases button in the store apps. Cydia Store purchases are tied to the device UDID.

Yes sir, I know that, it's just it will take a lot of time to redownload again your purchases :) .. thanks :)

Thanks for your suggestion.

I tried rebooting and had the same problem so i finally caved and tried to restore through itunes but received the prompt "The Iphone could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build." The only other thing I know to do is to take it to the apple store? Can they tell that it was previously jailbroken at this point?

I believe they can in this case.

This device isn't eligible for the requested build means you're trying to install an iOS firmware that isn't the latest version, so you will need to update to iOS 6.
Right click your device in the iTunes sidebar, choose Back Up, then when that finishes, click the Restore button to update to the latest version.

I gotcha. There is no backup option and it will not restore either.

when upgrading to ios 6 it stuck, im ready to restore to 6, but will my pic and vids be gone?? what about thecontacts?

(03 Oct '12, 19:49) Rebelcharger68 Rebelcharger68's gravatar image

All will be gone. That's why you make a backup. If you haven't made a backup and it's stuck in recovery mode then you can't and you just learned a lesson. Backup frequently. Never keep important stuff only on your phone. Not meaning to sound rude but it's the truth

no, i get it, not my fone, he (cust) did all this before he brought it to me. really no0 win app to grab a backup, like maybe a shadow of the backup it was doing when it was upgraded?

iTunes should have automatically backed it up in the update process, I think.

Ugh a customers phone? If you don't know there is no bootrom exploit (you tried redsnow fix recovery), you really should learn more before trying to do this as a business. You can cause people to lose their unlock by doing something wrong. If I brought you a phone and you lost my unlock I would be demanding you do a free factory unlock for the incompetence! I had to do this once myself because I clicked the wrong ipsw (used stock instead of custom) and manned up to the mistake and offered the free factory unlock because I'm honest and it was the right thing to do. That mistake was because I was tired and not paying enough attention, not from a lack of knowledge and skills like trying fix recovery on an A5 device...... /end rant

Ps. Your stuck updating the phone to 6 and telling the customer they can't be jail broken, for a while, because you got it stuck in recovery

Wait a minute, @Rebelcharger68, are you @maxbrown? You should create your own question if not.
