How to fix some mysterious problems.

My Cydia screen turned black ( it has the icons at the bottom and its white on top but when you click on icons it continues to show a black screen and it sometimes crashes and returns to the open folder screen I have it in ) It seems to have been after the tweak CustomizeFB pro. How can I fix the screen or get to where I can remove that to fix Cydia since I cannot see anything except a black screen.

I looked it up and this seems promising because in small print in red it says something about dpkg etc etc and interupted ....update in the black pop-up box that always pops up till it goes to done.....that's when the screen turns black. Maybe everyone here can read this and help each other out. I'm going to read it tomorrow but if anyone comes here and reads it....feel free to explain it to me. This sounds like exactly the problem happening. Anyway here is the link there may be a space between / and the S in show because I had to type the link by hand considering all the problems. Please everyone check it out ( even people who may come and stumble upon this but did not post ) From what I did read I know I will need some help.

My hand typed link was is the link

Take issue up with the app developer. You don't have to post a new question with whatever problems you have on each app/tweak you install, which it seems you installed alot lately.

Well spotted bro ;)

I guess that.s an option.....the problem is that the same thing I tried in the past does not work so it is " new " in that respect. ......edit.....then again.....I cannot see the app screen :(

Reporting the problem to the dev is the proper (if not should be the only) way to fix your app/tweak issues so that the dev will know and possibly release a version with a fix. And no, us regulars here that try to keep up answering your questions don't install every app/tweak available in cydia.

I suppose I will google it and try to get the name correct. It's hard to convey over tyoing but I was not trying to be funny when I wrote " I can't see the developer due to the black screen " I really was not. That's not my style at all. Sorry if it seemed that way. I do appreciate you " regulars " as you said so I would not do that. Thanks just the same. If I find out anything I will let you all know.

I agree....I'm just not one to ask for help and try to be a wise-guy at the same time, I understand though.....I'm sure you all get many jerky people. I understand that my ( I can't see the screen ) could have easily been misunderstood. It is hard to covey and understand the other person when typing sometimes. If you get a chance I put up a link where someones problem sounds exactly like mine ( black cydia screen crashing everything ) it may have to do with dpkg on updates or interrupted installs or something plus in red on the black pop-up when it finishes the re-load as you enter cydia comes up in small print with an error about dpkg and interrupted etc etc.....then the screen turns black just like the box and a few minutes crashes. If you get a chance to look at that page that would be great. I'm sure I'll need some help with understanding it. Thanks Spockers. The link is up top under my original question as a comment. Thanks.

The link you posted starts in 2009 and ends in 2011, and I must sleep. I would start over. Restore, setup as new device, jailbreak, refrain from assimilating Cydia.

@spockers I saw some videos where people had similar problem as myself with the black screen but most of those had to do with VNC veency to view on the Mac....a few had the same problem as I did with the entire Cydia screen turning black except for the icons at the bottom where clicking them still lets you see nothing since the screen is black. One person seemed to claim that he fixed his jailbreak by jailbreaking it again while still jailbroken. Do you think that first of all that it's true and second of all that it would even likely work?? If not would I need to un-jailbreak my iPad 2 first somehow ( since I can't see the screen it might be hard ) before restoring to factory or can you just skip un-jailbreaking ( if there is such thing ) and jusr simply do a factory restore to remove the jailbreak? I hope my questions here make sense just in case my terminology is off.

......I suppose instead of " restore to factory " what I really mean is " restore to the last iCloud backup before jailbreaking " before re-jailbreaking ( my terminology was off by what I meant )

Hold power and home and release both when you see the white apple logo (10-15 seconds). Then immediately press and hold volume up until the lock screen comes up. This will disable mobile substrate and all tweaks which rely on it. See if Cydia works then to uninstall the tweak. Reboot when done.

The problem is Imdid try that several times but the cydia screen is still staying black ( on the bottom apps, under the clock the white bar but in the middle no matter what icon you press there is a black screen. Will try again though.

(19 Sep '12, 01:00) FastEddieSRT FastEddieSRT's gravatar image

Tried that again.....still a black cydia screen.....tried waiting too just in case it's a page load problem with a black screen instead of white but instead it crashes back to the folder screen that I have it in.

I had this problem and this is how I fixed it: Create a SSH connection then browse to Var/Lib/dpkg/updates and delete all the content in that folder, reboot your device and tap on cydia. This time cydia may download new package lists and work normally.

How to create an SSH connection? 1. download WinSCP 2. when the installation is completed, alogin dialog appears 3. go to Settings->WiFi in your iPhone, choose your connection and tap the blue arrow to get the iPhone IP address (both your computer and iphone must be connected to the same WIFI network) 4. type the IP address into the Host name field 5. type root into the User name field 6. type alpine into the Password field 7. click on the Login button a message box will appear; click Yes and wait until the PC establishes a connection to your iPhone.. ..done!

Now a dialog will show up: the panel on the right displays the folders of the iPhone, the one on the left shows the folders of your PC.. now you can drag & drop files, rename them and make other files operations as if you are using Explorer..
