How to fix some mysterious problems.

My iPhone 4 keeps failing to jailbreak regardless of whether I use Absinthe 2 or redsn0w and regardless of in DFU mode or not. My thought is it may be just way to much on it ( especially photos etc etc ). Should I reset it to factory then jailbreak it and then reset my phone from an iCloud backup ?

Do you get a specific error in redsnow or absinthe? Try disabling any antivirus and retry redsnow. Make sure u also run as Adminastrator.

I should be running as Admin since I am the only profile on the iMac but I didnt think of antivirus.....i recently downloaded the free norton antivirus app but actually I dont believe I have ever looked at it or clicked on it even though I did install it. Not sure if that woukd be effecting anything.

Norton interferes with the installation on Windows and will most likely do so on a Mac. Disable it and try again.

Sorry I was gone a bit. How would one disable an app on an iMac or should I just remove it temporarily?

I'd remove it permanently. You don't need it. Also, on an A4 device, you should use redsn0w, in DFU mode. There's no point in doing the backup/restore method unless you have an A5. Redsn0w--> Extras--> Even more--> Preferences--> Check "Use DFU ramdisk method whenever possible." Click "Back" 3 times. Click jailbreak.

Yeah....i know Macs are more secure anyway. The reason I never used it is because its pretty much unnecessary ....but it was free from a respected provider so I downloaded it. The first attempt was with redsn0w in DFU mode ( because of all the media ) but it still failed. I will remove the norton and try again.

When I get to the part in redsn0w where you put " check use DFU ramdisk method whenever possible " it says on the screen ECIDs , Boot args, Boot logo <---as buttons then radio buttons below with move applications, beep on connects / disconnects then a box with radio buttons below that that say ECID display style, with Decimal and Hex with Decimal chosen in the radio buttons. There is however a newer version of redsn0w ( it says at the top ....maybe I should download that first.

Yes, you should be using redsn0w 0.9.14b2. Get it here.

The above link somehow says there's a virus and won't let me email.

It's simply a page of links here on this site. Your security software is paranoid, and it's going to keep you from running redsn0w successfully even if you do manage to download it. Redsn0w is not a virus, but many antivirus products interfere with it and cause it to crash, without throwing an alert. Disable your security software temporarily.
