How to fix some mysterious problems.

  • the title of long questions overlaps with the content
  • closed questions shouldn't actually show up; they clutter things
  • "add comment" button should be moved near the edit/etc links
  • the answer count is getting cached too long (or something)
  • is completely wrong

Perhaps another good question would be "how can I scale this site". ;)

Thanks for adding the "report" button. Much better site with those in place !

(24 Feb '11, 19:21) dhlizard dhlizard's gravatar image

Report has been there since the beginning.

(24 Feb '11, 19:24) Endareth Endareth's gravatar image

Really ? Cause in the beginning I looked high and low for a way to report posts, couldn't find anything (and I mean I really looked intently). Made a suggestion to @chpwn-@comex and noticed it a week later. Apparently I need better glasses (Ha)

(24 Feb '11, 19:43) dhlizard dhlizard's gravatar image

Trying to recall... but it has been there almost since the start anyway.

Since I have spent very little time here, I guess I just overlooked it (or is it something you gain access to based on your score/karma) ? I mean I really looked a couple of weeks ago. Now that's embarrassing !

The same thing happened to me. The abusers have voted up some pretty awful answers while voting down legitimate solutions, too. I've been trying to moderate as best I can, but I can't ban users. I can think of two possible steps. First, make registration a little more difficult (at this point, I think it asks for an e-mail, but doesn't require it to be valid to vote). Second, keep users with zero karma from voting?

Its kinda hard to navigate a question with a lot of answers. It takes me a couple minutes to find the response every time someone responds in my question... sucks to have to look for something for a while, and then have it not work ;P

It needs to have a automatic refresh kinda like twitter. That way we don't have to refresh a million times. I'm not sure if this is possible but I think it would be nice. :)

Try to make it more obvious that people need to vote up correct (and vote down incorrect) answers, and that the originator of a question needs to confirm the most correct answer when possible, as this is the main way that this sort of site gets it's structure (higher voted questions and answers showing at the top, etc).

Prevent the ability for people with a scrore of zero from voting? This would stop abusers such as @Testaccount

I even got negative rep from him -_-

But it would also be better to fix the unlimited karma glitch. Theres probably about 8 people who have abused (or accidentally abused) this already.

Seconded; this guy ( was even using a fake account spoofing musclenerd's ( to abuse in one of the most flagrant cases yet.

It'd be nice if "admins" or more generally "trusted users" had a clearer indicator on their names than just ?? -- for example, a text label or differently-colored background on the name -- so that new users can see who to trust more easily.

I like how Quora allows people to list their source of expertise in an extra field when they're answering a question, but I don't know if that can be integrated into this site very easily.

To a degree you can trust those with higher ratings, as they're users who've been given points by others for giving good answers (and other positive things).

You need to have a way to stop the random spam questions that people keep making

Disallow posting of new questions? :-p

Add a verify box where you have to type the letters in the image.

Adding more badges for the fun of it. Or you can make it so that people don't -karma fuck us. Not saying that it happened to me already.

Editing a question seems to un-close the question.

And require email validation before a user can vote, this would make it harder for certain people to abuse the voting system.

edit: Actually I think I was wrong about this one, it's simply that the user in question simply kept re-opening the closed questions...

It would be good if there was FAQ page with answers to most commonly asked questions. Like step-by-step procedures for the normal stuff that we know works, the potential pitfalls and things to try, and how-to videos all organized by device. Listing all the appropriate files, versions, and links to them. ie.

Just a thought as it might reduce the number of duplicate questions. But, probably not ;)
