How to fix some mysterious problems.

Hi, My friend wants to get her old 3GS unlocked with AT&T.... She currently uses SAM+Ultrasn0w to Activate and Unlock....

My question is: Will she have to use SAM and Ultrasn0w to Unlock And Activate if she requests an unlock from AT&T??

Thanks -SDK

No. Assuming they unlock it, that is.

An unlock from AT&T is an official unlock, same as if you would have purchased the phone factory unlocked from Apple.

Ah...So she wouldn't have to preserve BB everytime a new iOS comes out?

Another small question: Will she get push notifications working again with a non-AT&T SIM if AT&T approves her request?

-Thanks

Only if she's using an official carrier, meaning a carrier you could actually buy an iPhone from, not necessarily AT&T. Otherwise, you have to take other measures to get push and FT etc working.

So, t-mobile?

you will either need to activate with an official carrier sim or use SAM to get back push. if you were to activate with a T-mobile(usa) sim you wouldn't get the push certs

So what you're saying is that even if the iPhone gets Factory Unlocked, I would still need an AT&T SIM to Activate/Get Push Notifications?

yes. you'd still need a sim from att/o2/rogers etc.. any official iPhone carrier. T-mobile USA doesn't have the iPhone, therefore won't get the valid certificates. Once you've activated with an official sim then u can swap to T-mobile and be fully functional.
