How to fix some mysterious problems.

Hi, I have a jailbroken (untethered) unlocked iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) running on iPad baseband 06.15. I was wondering if I can upgrade my iPhone to iOS 5. Ofcource, I would still want my phone to be jailbroken and unlocked, as it is right now. I have not been able to keep myself updated with the latest in the world of jailbreak and unlocking but I saw that redsn0w is available for iOS 5 but I am not sure how to upgrade my device to iOS 5 and then jailbrake and unlock it. Kindly help!

yes, you can go for iOS 5 ... make a custom IPSW through redsnow and then install it through iTunes Restore ... yes there is ultrasnow compatibility for iOS 5 too ... install ultrasnow .. you are good to go then .. however, the performance of 3GS is not that good on iOS 5 ... if you can bear a bit of laggy firmware .. then go for it

Thanks for your reply. I saw that ultrasn0w 1.2.7 supports unlock of devices running iOS 5.1.1. ( It does not mention the installation of any "fixer for 5.1.1" as you mention in your answer above. Please confirm. Regarding the lag, I am not sure if I would be interested to upgrade if there is a lot of lag. I mean, it should be usable first more than running latest firmware. How has your experience been with the performance?

ultrasn0w fixer is NOT needed. Ultrasn0w 1.2.7 supports 5.1.1

Ok. Thanks for your replies. I tried to generate custom ipsw using redsn0w and got the error "Memory exhausted". Has anyone faced this error? How to resolve this? Still awaiting some response on the performance of 5.1.1 on 3gs. Thanks
