It's possible to jailbreak it - just follow the instructions linked at the top of the page: How do I jailbreak iOS 5.0.1, 5.1, and 5.1.1? Jailbreaking it will also "hacktivate" it (unofficially activate it) so that it can be used as an iPod touch. The concern with the serial number is really whether it's an "old baseband chip" or "new baseband chip" device - having an old/new bootrom is unrelated. It looks like that serial number is old enough to be compatible with the iPad baseband - see the carrier unlocking guide. However, ultrasn0w is only compatible up to iOS 5.0.1. If you want to unlock it with ultrasn0w, you'll have to check to see if the device has SHSH blobs and then if it does, use them to downgrade the device - see here for a complete guide to this process. |
