Help with jailbreaking and Cydia for iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches.

evasi0n7 can jailbreak iOS 7.0-7.0.6 untethered. p0sixspwn can jailbreak iOS 6.1.3-6.1.5 untethered (see here for 6.1.6).
How to jailbreak iOS 7.0-7.0.6 (and fix problems). iOS 7.1 is not jailbreakable, except an unsupported tethered iPhone 4 jailbreak.
Restoring or updating will update your device to iOS 7.1 and remove your jailbreak. There is no way to downgrade from iOS 7.1 to 7.0.x.

So, my on/off button (a.k.a power button) doesn't work. It seems to be pushed in, so if i try to push it, it wont do anything. And, I had rebooted it 2 days ago, and its still currently in Semi-Tether mode ever since because since mine is a semitethered jailbreak, I can't get out because this power button thing occured this morning, while I was still in Semi-Tethered mode....So, I can't 'Just Boot' it because I can't use the power button to reboot, or even put in DFU Mode... My dad said to just use Assistive Touch, until he can afford to get it fixed, since my warranty is over. This won't be happening any time soon, and I don't want to be stuck in Semi-Tether mode for so long, but I still want to be able to just boot it back to normal when I do get it fixed, so restoring isn't an option because then I can't re-jailbreak it until it's fixed. Is there anything I can do? A program to put in DFU Mode? An app that does it? Anything at all to fix this situation?

Like I said, this won't be happening soon, since my warranty is over and it costs a lot.

the only other way is using a faked ipsw. that only works for pwning to do a full restore. it fails a restore and leaves the phone in dfu expecting a restore (or pwned and restored if jailbreaking)

That method will not work as to get it into dfu it will break your current working ios install

Huh? :S

What is faked ipsw? or pwning? What method, and whats it going to do?

(28 Apr '12, 18:29) HeyMe HeyMe's gravatar image

this method. pwning (pwned dfu to restore a custom, you should know this) and if you use this method you will then need to restore your phone.

(28 Apr '12, 18:32) theiphoneguy ♦ theiphoneguy's gravatar image

So I would have to restore in the end? And it's an iPod...

(28 Apr '12, 18:42) HeyMe HeyMe's gravatar image

yep.

(28 Apr '12, 18:51) theiphoneguy ♦ theiphoneguy's gravatar image

but if i restored, wouldn't it un-jailbreak? and i could easily unjailbreak/restore from itunes by clicking restore couldn't I?

(28 Apr '12, 18:53) HeyMe HeyMe's gravatar image

a stock restore yes. the linked method is to put it into dfu to then use ireb or redsn0w to pwn dfu for a custom restore

(28 Apr '12, 18:56) theiphoneguy ♦ theiphoneguy's gravatar image

Custom restore? :S What would the difference be?

You don't have to send it to Apple in order to get your button fixed. There's a bunch of electronic places that will do it for you. They're also pretty cheap. Just look some up.

Yeah, but Apple is just the best option as its more trustworthy.

Most of the guys at the Apple store don't know half the things they say. They'll just replace your iPod Touch while an experienced technician will open it, change the button, and close it.

Wow. So they're all talk huh? Some guy at Future Shop (to see if i could get it replaced there) was telling me how Apple does 'amazing things' in there or something like that. They're just making more sales off me...Wow. Well thanks for telling me! And I recently found out my warranty is there for a little bit longer, so it would be free if I went to Apple.

some know, some dont, everyones a rookie at some point (no not pointing at you lol). Apple can swap em for ease, since they send it back to their factory to be refurbished, no middle man like if you return an htc to att who then sends it off to htc

Oh I see... Thanks :)
